8.2L diesel?

Alright....I came across a Detroit 8.2 v8 TurboDiesel....would this work in a 1/2 ton '67? I know it'd be a bit much but hey...;)

Seems like its got pretty low hp and torque #s for the engine size and there are some things to watch out for.

Weight is listed around 1100lbs. There was just a post a few days ago where they were talking weights of big blocks vs. cummins. IIRC, the 5.9 cummins was pretty close in weight to the DD. Search for that thread, some good info there

Not sure if it'd fit because that 8.2L is meant for 30'+ boats, school busses, and medium duty trucks. I think you'd have a hard time finding a transmission to fit behind it as well. As stated above as well, from what I hear it is heavy, really smoggy, underpowered, and unreliable.

you'd be better off with a 12-valve cummins or a 6.5 Detroit TD out of a 90's pickup...just my two cents.

I have worked in the trucking industry for 22 yrs in parts. 8.2 L Run run far away unless you want a bot anchor.

you sure it's not a 6.2L diesel? I just put a 6.2L GM (Detroit) diesel in my '71 4x4 Burb. It fits real damn good....so far!

No,The 8.2 was the medium duty diesel made at about the same time as the 6.2.They would be a major project to install in a light truck. If you went the medium duty diesel route there are many better motors for the same effort.

I have had a few in medium duty trucks. They have a well earned reputation of leaking from every seal and seam but if you keep the fluids in the them they will run forever. A lot of old oil pumping stations out west used them becuase they would not die. OH no.......did I see boat anchor?

:cuss:I get so po'd when I see such close mindedness."it's a boat anchor"...C'mon! You don't think they'd be useful to tie a steer to if you didn't have fencing?Or,maybe a counter weight on the back of a tractor with a loader bucket?Besides, would you really want to haul that thing up everytime you move the boat?Wouldn't it chew the side of the boat up?What would Popeye look like with an old blown diesel motor tattooed on his forearms?C'mon, get real!!!:haha:

How about counter weight in the back of a pulling truck?
