Adjusting the Clutch
The clutch in my 3OTT is getting pretty worn, I know where to adjust it but not which way. I crawled under there to see but I'm not positive. So the threaded piece points towards the front of the truck, do I adjust the nuts to the front or the rear?
The parts you adjust is just to the left of that spring, do I adjust it toward or away from the end there? http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1483648_n.jpg |
Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Toward the end.

THanks Geezer, all I needed to know!

Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Make sure you leave a little play in it. Don't want your throw out bearing running all the time.

Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Ok just moved it about a half inch further toward the end, took it for a test drive and it did not go well, whenever I got on it, it would almost be like it was in neutral it was slipping so bad. Any ideas? Maybe the clutch is just totally shot, but I drove it yesterday and it was better then.

Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Sounds like you went the wrong way. adjust until you have some freeplay in the pedal.

Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Ok I just crawled under there and had someone push and release the clutch, looks like it's pretty much gone. I'd still like to adjust it more so I can salvage whatever is left and have it some what mobile till I get a replacement. What exactly is "freeplay"? Would that be pedal travel at the top without moving the actual clutch?

Re: Adjusting the Clutch
Go for 3/4" to 1" free pedal and see if it will work. If it slips bad with free pedal then a replacement is needed. Its also hard on the throwout brg with no freeplay.
