Sound deadener
 

I'm getting a little tired of so much road noise being transmitted through the floor, so I'm considering putting Dynamat or some other product under the carpet to quiet it up some. Does anybody have any good or bad experiences with specific brands? Also, if I'm just doing the floor, does anybody know how many sq.ft. I'm going to need?

My '67 has product called "fat mat" that previous owner installed. Basically it is Dynomat. The stuff works pretty damn good....I mean we are driving around tin cans. Unsure of sq. footage you are goin to need to do whole cab like mine is.

I did the floor of my cab this summer using a heat/sound insulation kit from JC Whitney.

It's similar to carpet padding with a metal backing on it. This makes it much thicker than I was expecting but I think it worked well and for $50 you get more than enough to cover your whole cab floor. As for sound deadening results its hard to gauge considering I only did the floor but road noise in my truck doesn't bother me and I've drive it on the highway to work everyday so it must have done something :uhmk:

I don't have the link here at work, but the other day there was a guy who used something he bought at Lowes. Seems like it was $15 for a 20-foot roll. I'll post the link when I get home tonight.

As for square feet, measure the cab floor door-to-door and gas tank to under dash. Then multiply the two numbers to get square footage. Guessing you're looking at 25-30 square feet.

I got some stuff off ebay called EDead. It had really good reviews and it was $250 for 250 square foot. Seems to work VERY well.

fatmat user here ... takes about 100 ft.² to do an entire truck ... firewall, floor, back wall, both doors.

I used Fat Mat as well and was able to get one layer on the floor, back wall, and most of the firewall with only 50 sq ft. Makes a big difference.

I used the same stuff, no tar odor or anything and really makes a difference.

I also used Fat Mat in my truck. i did the floor, firewall, behind the seat, and i also did the inside of my new door skins before i put them on the doors. it works really good and if you go on thier web page they usually have specials going on.

Ok, Fatmat it is. Now, when I put it behind the seat, do I put it behind or in front of the gas tank, or is that just a preference thing?

The theory behind sound deadner is to reduce by dampening or killing sound waves. You want to put it anywhere you can to cancel the waves not insulate them. Get inside ypur doors, floors, firewall, and cab. Cover everything you can.

Fatman everywhere, heavy rubber mat on floor & then carpet... pretty good for road noise but the stereo still echos around due to the metal doors & top. Would love to upholster the whole interior like this.
