Carrier Bearing? CPP Billet worth it?
 

I see that CPP makes a billet bearing that looks very nice but are they that much better than the Autozone off the shelf one? I plan to beat my truck a little bit via a 400+ hp 406 SBC, drive on some long trips, and pull trailer and boat? i like preventative parts but id like some imput from some ppl that have used this!

Carrier bearing as in the rear or center bearing in a 2pc driveshaft? Either way,what these trucks came with works fine. They have proven to be the longest lasting and most reliable trucks ever built. I'm not sure about what Autozone sells,but an OEM design part from a quality bearing company does the trick just fine.

I don't know about the aftermarket one, but I replaced mine with the Autozone one last month and haven't had any problems.

I have no insight on it but im lookin at gettin one.seems to look like a great part imo.I also have no experience with the stock ones either so im not much help lol

I would like to get one. It looks like to me that it is more sturdier than the OEM or AutoZone one. I have had my truck around 13 years or so and it has allways been my daily driver. I have had to replace my carrier bearing/ center support bearing 2 times. I also had a new driveshaft built and balanced by Inland Empires. I have put on close to 14,000 miles on my truck between Febuary of last year and Febuary of this year, so yeah, I have put on some miles on my center support bearing. I usually average 8,000 to 10,000 miles a year. :metal:

The problems I have encountered with the OEM or AutoZone one is the rubber part dry rots out/ tears out. I have also had the stamped metal part come unstamped. I just drilled a few holes and bolted it back together to buy me some more time 'till replacement time.

So in my opinion the billet one should hold up a lot better.

I've seen a few guys place some extra tac welds on metal surround the the bearing rides inside of. They've had good luck going that route. I thought about going the CPP route myself, but swapped to a one piece instead.

Amen! I did not have much luck with carrier bearings so went one-piece and haven't looked back (or underneath) since.

I went thru 2 new stock ones within 6 months. Switched to the CPP billet one and haven't had a problem since!

You guys that are going through carrier bearings..are your trucks lowered or factory height?
Also,where are you guys getting your one piece driveshafts..I'm wondering if your trucks are longbeds..

I started tearing up the bearings after I lowered my truck (short bed) My exhaust guy had a driveshaft in his shop that he wasn't using that I had cut down so I was able to do the swap for less than $50.

My SWB started tearing them out right after the 3/4 drop. Had the two piece balanced by Inland Driveline and still took one out. When I complained they showed there version of the the billet carrier, I bought it and have not had any problems in about 15K miles.

I ve been though 2 from auto zone...my truck is bagged with pro street tires and a caddy so it gets some abuse...planning a 1 piece as soon as I free up some cash but having a place to get replacements NOW is always good

I sell billet carrier bearings and I wouldn't put one in my own truck! The oem style works just fine after a little beefing up on the bracket. Good ujoints, a straight and properly ballanced driveshaft and the oem style carrier should last another 40 years regardless of hp.... It takes way less than 1hp to turn the race attached to the shaft in the bearing. But hey if you want billet have at it, they last as long and transfer any vibration right to the frame.
