Best place to buy your first???
 

I've been posting some Ebay finds just to get some expert opinions on here. And, I'm sure that many will say that the best place to buy is on the classified board right here. Understood. But, I'm having a heck of a time finding someone close to me to at least inspect/see their truck. Maybe they are more common in other parts of the country. But, My two passions, so far, for a ME vehicle are these Chevys and Scouts. I think I'd have a better chance at seeing the Loch Ness Monster.

A fellow Scout man! I have had 2 myself, next to my beloved bowtie, a "Binder" is hard to beat! Pa is pretty hard on the old rides I would imagine. The cab corners, and rockers always seem like the first things to go. When i lived out in ID I saw these year trucks still out working on the farms/ranches, as you get into the rust belt they get tougher to find, at least ones that arent see through. I see quite a few here in OK, too, scour craigslist, take your time and look them over carefully, sometimes hauling one back from several hundred miles away is much cheaper than saving a rust bucket. Look everywhere. Check craigslist using searchtempest and expand your search to a 300 mile radius.There is no perfect place to find a truck.

Make sure when you do locate one that you want to go look at that you take someone else who knows trucks with you. It's easy to over look problems when you're already seeing it in your driveway in your mind. I made that mistake myself.

Take a nice day and just "go for a ride". Expand the horizons a bit and maybe cruise a few back roads and through a few small towns. You can still find trucks sitting in yards and in front of businesses with for sale signs in the window.

Personally I'd rather find a solid and decent running truck with the original paint job still on it even though the paint may be pretty tired and worn. Not for the "patina" thing as guy here know how I feel about that but simply so that I can see what the body is really like. Fresh primer scares me off and a fresh but very cheap paint job usually turns me off. Usually those are to cover something up or the sellers idea of "value added".

If you want a finished or near finished truck use every source available. You already do Ebay but check Craigslist adds in surrounding cities and maybe states. figure out how far you are willing to drive to go look at a truck and go from there. 50 miles is too far for some guys while 500 miles is just a weekend jaunt for others.

Don't pay extra for added stuff you don't intend to use. If a guy has a brand new set of 15 inch Americans with matching tires and you want 20's with low profile tires I'd see if he would keep his wheels and tires and knock the price of the truck down.

Swap meets like Carlisle are great but you have to remember that guys with trucks there for sale usually plan on getting top dollar. But if the truck is still there on Sunday cash quite often talks pretty loud.

other places nearby to check for thier swapmeets are englishtown raceway and in south jersy cowtown find more info by googleing swapmeets in the area you live

also search thru the craigslist areas surrounding you that are in easy driving distance to go look

these trucks are not rare or scarce they're really out there in numbers

going to car shows swapmeets and talkin to people with old vehicles of any type is a great way to find things

I found my 72 K10 on carsoup.com. I also saw quite a few on autotrader.com and keepitlocal.com. Good luck.
