Gear Indicator Light "help"
60-66 trucks question
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did the steering columns have a indicator light on the column for gear selection on auto transmissions? Yes, sort of, inside the column is a bulb that lights up with your light switch, it throws light through a hole on the column onto the plastic selector. As said above, only on auto columns and I think they were available for the 2,3 or 4 speed hydro. OK. Now I need some direction after not being able to find the answer in the wiring diagram. RE: 1964 C-10 The gray wire from the gear indicator light socket in the steering column flows thru the dash wiring harness directly to the fuse box, where it is connected into the "GAS GUAGE EXT" along with the tan wire from the fuel sender unit (coming from the gas tank). The gear indicator light will not illuminate, nor does a test light in the socket illuminate. My fuel guage works. What's my next step in solving the gear indicator light issue? |
Re: Gear Indicator Light "help"
It should tie in with rest of the grey wires for the inst. lights. There might be an outlet in the fuse box for inst. lights. Then it will dim when you turn the light switch with the rest of the lights.

Re: Gear Indicator Light "help"
^ I agree ^
The connection point on the fuse panel for the instrument lights is located near the upper/right corner. Just to the right of the "PANEL LPS" fuse. It has a double blade terminal ... one of which might already be occupied by another grey wire if your truck has options such as the deluxe style heater that has a panel light. |
Re: Gear Indicator Light "help"
Thanks so much guys. That is where I will put it.
I just wanted to have it correct on the restoration and could not figure out why it way tied into the fuel guage slot on the fuse box with the gas tank sending wire. I also, did not want to splice into the dash light wires. So, now it works as it should. |
