Air Conditioning trouble
So i have 383 stroker motor and im trying to get an ac compressor mounted on it.
The trouble is that i have a long water pump and i have the alternator brackets installed on the passenger side where the compressor should be. I found a bracket thats able to mount the compressor on the drivers side, but the bracket will only fit Sanden 508 style comrpessors. and this bracket mounts with the 1st and 3rd holes of the exhaust manifold. My question is, has anybody had to do this, and what problems could i be potentially facing going this route? I have power steering as well but the bracket is supposed to accomodate that. http://www.srbymichael.com/manufactu...ges/119L-t.jpg |
Re: Air Conditioning trouble
the sd508 is a very good compressor, and the brackets work very well. which brand are you looking at? They sometimes will require a little tweaking to line the belt perfectly to the others(trimming of bracket or installing washers). But they generally are designed to work with manifolds or headers.
Another issue that personally I do not like about the pass alt/drivers ac is why run the ac lines all the way across the engine bay? These kind of "street rod" brackets sometimes end up with a loooong unsupported belt on the slack side, which can cause tossed belts, especially in a performance application |
Re: Air Conditioning trouble
Yea i dont like the idea of running the AC hoses all the way across the engine either, but right now i kind of have to cuz i have the alternator in the way.
And im not sure what brand to go for, any ideas? |
Re: Air Conditioning trouble
I have used Vintage Air brackets and Old Air Products Both with very good results. Both have brackets for drivers alt and pass compressor.
I like the Old air a little more, but the ones l like require drilling a hole in the pass head, but they dont bolt to the water pump. Old air brackets# 40-132r comp pass 40-232l alt driver vintage air brackets# 151371-bca comp pass 15838-vcb alt driver couple of quick e-bay and google searches will find any of these brackets. |
Re: Air Conditioning trouble
I had a long water pump etc. on the front of my 350 as well. When I bought a vintage air kit I bought everything I needed to swap the alt. back to the DS. I went a little different route, I got everything I needed for a short water pump set up, but the same idea. I think you'll be much happier if you swap the alt. and put the compressor on the PS where it should be :D
