Faux SWB for sale

Saw this on CL. What a strange look. I think a section of the bed behind the rear wheels was removed.

Ford offered that setup as an option back in 70's or 80's. Helps distribute the weight better rear to front. Worked well with large slide in campers.

If Ford offered such a bed it had to be a horrible idea! GM certainly wouldn't even imagine doing that!

Ford did actually do longer wheelbase truck with a modified bed. It must have been fairly rare though, because you just don't see them anymore. Most of the ones I have seen were used as pulling trucks in the local county fairs. I'm not really a Ford guy, but I think they were only produced in the mid 70s. I don't recall ever seeing one with the 78-79 updated front end?

I remember as a kid putting together a model kit of a Ford truck and thinking they really got the fender proportions way off. I think the kit had something to do with Firestone? Later I realized there were two different versions of the truck in real life.

Didn't GM make altered wheelbase trucks also? I seem to remember seeing some C/30s in the pre dually days that had the rear axle moved toward the tailgate. The bed was the same length, so it was not a longhorn. Anyone else have any pics or knowledge?

If you go to the actual ad and look at the other picture, is that a shadow or is that a Longhorn bed?

That truck was ahead of its time. Look at the modern cars, they have the wheels close to both ends for better handling and weight distribution.

It does look a little odd though compared to what we are use to seeing on older vehicles.

That is what is interesting about being into old vehicles is seeing different styles.
