How much to sell your truck
How much would it take someone to offer you to hand over the keys to your truck? Ya know, you're at a gas station and someone offers "x" dollars for your truck, which may be different than what its worth or what you could actually sell it for (though I've seen some craigslist ads for the make me sell it price)
Anyways, I'd start to think about selling my '68 for about $50k.....I don't have that much actual money into it, but the 3+ years of work get it pretty close if I value my time. Not to mention all the memories :) My '69 I might let go for about $5k. On the other hand I think my wife would let it go for free :) |

Like most everyone else I get asked all the time if I want to sell my truck. I drive it everyday. Not that I think anyone would pay it but $10k not a penny less.

Re: How much to sell your truck
My 67 C30 is probably "worth" $2,500 - $3,500. I would sell it for $10,000. It is used every week for work and it would cost me a lot to not have it for a few weeks. It would take me a while to replace it. If I got $10,000 I could use a couple grand to replace it with any crappy dump truck and then take my time finding a suitable replacement.
I don't simply have a dump truck for work, I have a 67 dump truck. I have no interest in any dump truck, it needs to be a 67-72 GM dump truck. |
Re: How much to sell your truck
The number would need to cover a similiar replacement, and a tidy profit. That is the equation I would utilize if asked the "Question".

The White truck $6500, the Red one $4500, and the Blue one $2500. The Blue "Sleeper" has rust but has a rebuilt 454 and TH400. I tend to deal in reality.... If you are fishing that is one thing, but if you are serious about selling a truck you will price it accordingly... In the 45 years I have been farting around with old cars and trucks I have only had one person that made an offer on the street end up being serious. I had a really nice '67 Pontiac and a guy came up to me in the local Tractor Supply Store parking lot and wanted to know what it would take to buy it. I shot him a price and he asked if I had the title with me. I said no but it was at home. He followed me home and counted out the cash then and there. For as many of these "parking lot offers" as I have had over the years that is a lousy average... 99% of them are not serious And if this turns into a personal for sale or want to buy thread I'm sure it will get locked... Just my 2¢ worth. LockDoc |

i would not take a penny less than 20,000 and that's if i were hard up

Re: How much to sell your truck
I have at least $10k in my blazer...but wouldn't take anything near that! I've got too much time invested in it and the cost of replacement would be much higher!
Just because I got a deal on some of the items (engine/tranny, buckets, wheels) doesn't mean I have to extend that to the next guy! ;) |

Re: How much to sell your truck
Had a few offers already for more than I paid for it, but I searched a while for the one I wanted so I plan on keeping it for a bit. Plus my son would really be upset as It's someday going to be his.

I'd want 10,000 for mine and I do not think anyone would pay that price. A few years ago over a 6 month period I had 2 notes left on the truck at two different locations by the same person with their phone number. I didn't respond but one day when I took the truck to work at the Hospital a note was left on the truck by the same person that happened to work at the Hospital too. I called then and it was a young lady ( nurse, so i'm sure she could afford it ) and I told her I didnt want to sell but would call her first if I ever wanted to sell the truck.

Around here it gets a little tiring with all the "wanna sell that truck" offers. Rust-free bodies are tough to find.
I paid 4K for it as you see it in the picture below and drove a looong way to get it. Everybody around here is looking to take the old truck off your hands for less than 1K. The conversation usually goes like this: Lugnut: "Wanna sell that truck?" Me: "How much are you offering?" Lugnut: "How much do you want" Me: "Well, I wasn't looking to sell, you were looking to buy. Make an offer." Lugnut: "How much do you want?" Me: "$11,000." :ito: Lugnut: "Hmph!" |

Mine's not finished, but $22K is the minimum as it sits, I've
already passed $40K invested not counting man hours in it. question was asked, I answered it as "If" someone asked. |

I have always stood by the saying that any vehicle I have is for sale for the right price. Defining the right price is a pipe dream, but weirder things have happened :) |

i dont know if any dollar amount would get me to part ways with my truck. I picked her up for 400.00 bucks and she runs and drives and is a rust free california truck. I havent had to fiddle with anything and I have all of the original paperwork too. Although on the second week that I was driving it, I had an old guy come up t o me and ask me about my truck and then flashed 3,000 dollars in front of me, I almost took it. But then my mind said " Ray, youre not going to find the same truck for 400.00.." |

Had my truck since '86 when I bought it as a real rust bucket 4x4 but I wanted a 67-72 4x4 long bed. Replaced the doors, hood, both fenders, the bed and tailgate. Only thing original to the frame is the cab itself but that had both inner and outer rockers replaced, cab supports, moved the gas tank under the bed behind the rear axle, installed factory tach, tow hooks, floor shift tilt, aftermarket 40/20/40 custom seat and coming up next is a for real live working factory am/fm stock radio. Stopped at a Gas-N-Go one day for a cold drink and came out to find a guy walking around the truck with the inevitable " Your truck for sale?" Being in a good mood I said "If the money is big enough it is" Next thing I hear " $8,500 sound big enough?" Had to do some fast back peddling then. Gave it some quick though and decided
"Nope, can't do it" Glad he didn't offer $10,000. Of course my youngest son would have been VERY upset with Ol' Dad. |
