majical screwdriver that I don't own.
2 Attachment(s)
Trying to take the window mechs out of my 57 doors and have run into a slight problem. I am sure most of you have one of these bits but where does one get one? Never seen it before in the 30 years I have been working on cars. Thanks

Re: majical screwdriver that I don't own.
I had good luck with one I made. I took a older flat head screw driver and ground it down to make it "fatter" then I took a bit off the sides to make sure it fit in the screw head. I knew that they were in there for a while so I used a bit of heat and let them cool a bit. I did not have one refuse to come out.
Take it slow, make sure you have good grip and you should be ok.. Oh as to your original question, I have no idea where to get the right tool for these things. |
Re: majical screwdriver that I don't own.
Those are "clutch head" screws and the appropriate drivers are available through the various parts vendors and even at the local NAPA-at least here.
4-piece set at LMC Truck http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/ca/full.aspx?Page=31 Individual driver at NAPA https://napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal...006432837&An=0 Just for a couple examples. |

It's called a "clutch" screw bit. You should be able to find them at your local hardware/automotive/tool store, they are not really common, but not all that rare either.

Sometimes you can find them at Sears too. I think they are in the tool catalog.
They are also in some of those XX# piece screwdriver bit sets in the plastic boxes. |
Re: majical screwdriver that I don't own.
Cheapest place I've found them is at Harbor Freight. They come in a set of about 20 different style bits in a plastic box for about $10.

Also I hear you can get it at a local tractor supply, they have them there, was used on the old tractors too.. Clutch head, good luck.
