How do you hook up a later horn to a '71?

My steering wheel hub is cracked, so i decided to get a replacement wheel. I wound up getting one off a '71 Chevelle. How can I adapt the horn spring to let the horn work with this wheel?

You need to find horn contact wire. It is a black wire with a plastic fitting that locks into the contact ring and keeps tension with a spring. The other side will clip onto that tab.

As far as where to find one - I don't know.

I have one off the exact same wheel, send me your address and I will mail it to you free...You will need to get the horn contact that lets it push in and turn into the notch to make it work.

Well, after wasting a couple of hours staring at this thing, the beer fog wore off, and i rigged it up temporarily until brother Smitty sends me a piece.

I know alot of you guys dont like this wheel, but it only cost me $40 at a swap meet and there are no cracks, and the smaller diameter makes it have greater clearance to work under the dash.

This thread was quite helpful actually, I have a wheel out of a Nova and the horn doesn't work and now I know why. I think that style wheel looks good in the 67-87 trucks. What size is that one, my is about 2" to big.

Yeah, my stock truck steering wheel is just too big. This one looks big in this photo, but it is the size of a standard american car steering wheel, and it is much better.

I also liked that it is flat rather than dished. I also have this same wheel. Too bad I can't find the center part or I'd let it go cheap.

I used my Dremmel tool to cut a notch in the tube for the black plastic piece to lock in. Thanks for taking the trouble to send me the piece. It is good to see brothers helping out each other many states away, I appreciate the help.
