A new toy to go with the old toy.

Picked up a new to me old Airstream travel trailer last week while on vacation. Its a 68 28' Airstream International Ambassador. Started cleaning it out. Gotta replace all the copper plumbing, was never winterized apparently. Otherwise in fair shape. Matches my 68 Custom Camper too. Also, got to try out my rearend from IronMike, 70's Dana 60 with 3.54 gears and posi. I resealed it and cleaned, greased bearings, new brakes. Ran great Mike. Towes good, no problems. Hubs stayed nice and cool. Drove from Russellville Ar. to Tulsa to check out trailer. Bought it and towed home. Stopped at Wallmart for new Goodyears on trailer though. Old dryrotted tires got so hot couldn't keep fingers on tire.

saweeeet! Nothing better than a cool vintage toy behind a cool vintage truck. IMO apparently some national level carshows are against it and won't let you in ith a trailer :(

Real nice piece! Big Al is right, that thing is worth some ducks here in FL.
This is what got me into this truck madness...71 Serro Scotty Sportsman.
Of course I had to have a correct tow vehicle so I bought a 70 Big Block GMC. Going to paint the trailer to match the truck. Can't wait to see if someone has the nads to tell me I can't bring it into a show.

That's super cool! Let's see the interior! One nice thing about Airstreams is the quality of the interior is way better than other brands of that era. I used to toe a fully self contained trailer but it was such a pain to drag around. Once all my kids left home I built a self contained teardrop trailer, I can tow it anywhere and usually forget it's back there!
Congrats on a very cool camper!

Sorry no interior pics. It needs work. Missing the original Refrigerator. Has originol cabinets beds bathroom and AC and other appliances. Needs cleanedup bad. All the AC outlets work good. The DC convertor wasn't working when I checked it tonight. Gonna blow it out and wire new leads to it, ground it good and hope it works. If not, new one with modern charging circuits in store. The nwater pipes were all burst multiple times all over. Apparently this guy didn't know how to winterize, but he sure as hell could solder in new unions every 16 inches or so. LOL.Thanks. Jim

Those are really cool. How much does a trailer like that weigh? Tongue weight?
