exhaust system recommendations
 

I have a 1970 LWB with a 350. It still has the stock manifolds, and is missing exhaust pipe from muffler back. I would like to find something not too expensive that would bolt right in without having clearance issues. If that means I keep the stock manifold then so be it, but I am not opposed to long tubes if they clear. I need the system to be dual exhaust and I don't care if it is rear or side exit. It can't hang too low since I just finished a 3/5" drop. Stainless, or aluminized, or coated any of the above, just don't want it to rust. I have access to a welder so a kit is not out of the question. I would just rather not spend a week piecing, cutting fitting the dang thing together. Would like to be able to complete in a day by myself.
Okay there ya have it. Any suggestions are welcomed.

For an exhuast system that fits,has good sound and you don't have to piece it together,I suggest a local muffler shop.They will bend to fit,weld it up and exit it anywhere you like.They may not be able to do one that will never rust but the price will usually be close to the cost of a kit without you having to do the labor or live with the downtime.Most will let you order the mufflers you want or have equivalents in stock.

Go to Budget Muffler on 23rd street in Independence, Mo. He will run it any way you want. Mine was $400.00 from the headers to the bumper with 2 1/2" exhaust, H-pipe and flowmasters.

Summit has kits that you can buy and do yourself.

Good advise. I recently removed some old, rusty four tubes and ancient glasspacks. Went back to OEM cast irons. Had a local shop build, well, pretty much (above). Sorry for "W-I-P" pictures. (pic 1) Ran tubes back from front , over trailing arms, and a couple of well-placed bends over the rear and Panhard Bar. Back to a pair of, believe or not, Thrush Turbo's(pic 2). Added a pair of 3" x 12" angle-cut chromies and done. With the mufflers at the back, the cab exhaust noise is greatly reduced.

But, then again, "to each his own". That's one of the things that makes this so much fun!

I have a Suburban that lays frame. You said you weren't against side exit. Its 2.5" the entire way. Here's a few pics of what I did...

If you want to save a trip to Independence, there's also a Budget Muffler at 87th and Grant in Overland Park -- down the street from the library. I've never used them, but they seem to be busy every time I drive by.

Not bad Bill, I go back to the doc Nov 3rd we'll see what happens. The budget muffler in Indep. Has done all my cars he good and stands by his work.

I installed a kit recently but it took forever (and needed field bending and cutting, too). Best advice is take it to a shop.
