PS Pump Removal

Can the PS pump be removed without also removing the brackets on a 1970 chevy?

Here's what I did so maybe someone can tell me what I'm missing:

I removed three nuts that hold the pump to the brackets. One that fits through the slotted adjustment part of the bracket. One nut that fit in a slot in the back of the bracket. And one nut at the bottom front of the bracket. I also removed the belt from the pulley. The pump will rotate, but will not come out.

Any suggestions??

I tried to do that on my 69 and could never figure it out so I had to get a puller and take the pully off so I could get to the bracket bolts.

The Bracket that pivots.Needs to come out.It cradles the pumpand the pump bolts to it.The two bolts(front and rear) need to come out. Then the pump with that bracket will come out.You can then remove the pump.Take the Hoses off before you do any of it though as it is hard to hold the pump still while trying to loosen them.

Once the bracket piece and pump are out the pump will swivel out of that bracket.

Thanks guys. I ended up taking the pump out along with the bottom bracket. Then played hell getting it all bolted back up. But a few choice words and some blood sacrifice and she's all done.
