Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
I am starting to see a lot more interest in diesel swaps in these trucks and with that, there is a lot of interest in the diesel tach clusters. Seeing how they are pretty hard to find, I came up with an idea and decided i'd see how it looked. I came across a mechanical tach from a project I had a while back and decided I thought I could make it work in a 67-72 cluster. This is how it has turned out so far. This is just a rough design and I'm still working on the printed circuit. Hopefully I can find more of these tachs and see about building more clusters. These are ran by a speedometer cable and aren't electronic. I'm going to try to dig something up for an electronic version as well. Tell me what you think. I'm not in love with the white lettering. To me it looks a little out of place, but I might be able to get that painted over. IDK though.

Thanks Mathew!

Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
doesn't look any more out of place than the actual factory unit. The mismatched needle on the stock ones has always bugged me for some reason.

Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
I think when the needles are all painted up it'll look more at home.

Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
Looks good to me. Paint the needle, put a new bezel on it and call it a day. I think a regular tach dash printed circuit would work for you as long as there are no actuual circuits that would get in the way of the drive cable.

I had my wife paint the needles and here's how it looks now.

Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
awesome work!
if you are looking for a more modern gauge instead of a factory look, Stewart warner Diesel competion gauges makes a 5" diesel Tach that goes to 6Krpm. My cummins only turns 4500 on a good day so its a bit much, but I liked the LED back lights. Chris |
Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
Yeah, I wanted to keep the OEM look for my 67-72 projects. Another option is Isspro just came out with their performax tach and speedometers. I'm getting those for my car.

Re: Diesel Gauge Cluster Project
PM me.
Are you gonna run the mechanical Cummins tach pickup off the front of the injection pump though? That seems like the best mechanical setup that I could find on the web. |
