Transmission swap

Recently picked up a 72 cheyenne 4 wheel drive. It has a th350 trans. and NP 205 transfer case. Is there an overdrive trans that I can swap in with out major modifications and or any computer controlls. How would such trans compare strength wise. Thanks

Sorry to say that there are no overdrive trannys that will work without major modifications,
A the only non computer GM overdrive is a 700R4 and it is longer than your T350 which means, moving the transfer case and crossmembers rearward, then you have to deal with shifter issues, it will also need a longer front drive shaft and a shorter rear one,,
Or another way is to move the engine forward, but then you have to drill holes for the engine crossmember, do exhaust mods, change to a different fan shroud, move shift linkage etc.
OR go with a Gear vendors overdrive unit which bolts to the rear of the transfer case, the only real modication is a shorter rear drive line and adding a few wires, but it is the most expensive method.
