help with fuel pump
 

I pulled the leaky fuel pump (on a basic 350) but can't get the pushrod to retract far enough to allow the new one to go on. The instructions say to move the crank slightly and this will allow the pushrod to clear. What's the best way to move the crank?

i usually use a pair of needle nose pliars to push it up and hold if with my finger and slide the pump arm in..... Kinda tricky usually takes me a few tries

slide push rod up with fingers and theres a bolt hole in the front of block with a bolt in it
take bolt out and screw longer bolt in to hold rod in place. once pump is installed remove long bolt and put the one you took out back in. hope this has helped

If you choose to turn the engine over remove the coil wire and have someone bump the engine over using the ignition switch until the push rod goes up all the way. Or you can remove the spark plugs and rotate the engine using a ratchet on the crank shaft bolt.

^This!^ Just tighten the bolt finger tight to hold pushrod.

Thanks guys, I'll give that a try. Also, would you use any additional gasket material other than the one that comes with the pump?

Thanks everyone. I lifted it up with the pliers and threaded in a longer bolt to hold it. Had the pump installed in 30 mins. The pushrod wasnt stuck - just so slippery it was hard to tell.
