i have a nos hood hinge and one of the rivets is loose but it is not rounded out. do i have to press it? is it something i can do or do i need to take it to a machine shop?

I think you would be money ahead if you just bought a new oem hinge. But if you want to fix it I would recommend checking with an industrial supply type store to see if they carry large flush type rivets if so, drill out the rivet in question & go to the next size up( so the hole is still round) and press in a new one. its all about the tolerance at the rivet (imo,) cheers, Pat

It is a nos hinge i bought new from gm a while ago. Thet wouldnt exchangeit for a new one. My hood closes nice but i can move it side to side very easily. I wonder if i just leave it will the rivet wear out quickly?

Just take it off and put one side of the rivet on something solid and use a dull edge chisel to try and "mushroom" the head further......did that to mine and it seemed to help.

Didn't know it was a new hinge try what this gentleman suggests sounds like it could be your answer. Plus don't over think the movement side to side they all do that at least all mine have to some degree. cheers, Pat
