Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
2 Attachment(s)
This was a recent purchase, that I went by the pictures they supplied on a craigslist ad. It was $850, so Im not too bummed, but looks like I'll have to replace the rockers.
I can't tell by pictures of new replacements, but do they include any extra metal between the weatherstripping lip and the floor, cause thats were the rust out is? Seems a shame I"ll have to replace the whole rocker, but the lip is gone. Everything else is wipe-off rust where I swiped an X with my finger |

Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
$850 for a SWB, thats all the rust it's got, and you're bummed? You Arizona guys are spoiled.
I believe the rockers end at the door seal lip. You'll need a floor patch panel inboard of the lip. Let's see the rest of it! |
Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
SPOILED lol lol lol lol
Geez |
Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
you'll need to make that piece (Its part of the floor) Or you can get outer floor pieces that include the inner rocker. Than an outer rocker. But for $850 thats not too bad really

Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
I thought they were making inner rockers now with that lip, but I may be wrong.

Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
For about $50 you can get the inner rocker with a 3" floor extension and for about 20 bucks more you can get the outer rocker. So for less then $100 per side you can have your "rusted" cab back in original shape.
Most of us spend $500-$700 to get our cabs back in shape, plus the hours and hours of welding, grinding and finishing required. Consider yourself lucky.....especially for 850 dollars! I know it's Arizona and any rust is kind of unusual, but really it's not that bad. |
Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
Nice Score. On the east coast that is considered rust free.

Spoiled???.......NO, I search many craigslist ads, knock on doors etc. There is plenty of good trucks out here, but just like hunting, you gotta work for the kill.;)
BTW 50bomb, you haven't seen the whole truck yet, its a mess. I hate house paint:rolleyes: Yes, I still think its a good score, a great base, and an easy restoration, but it will take many hours to make it a sweet ride.:) Dingfodgy wrote ( So for less then $100 per side you can have your "rusted" cab back in original shape). Are you being sarcastic:lol: Seriously, I appreciate the input and info |
Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
You truck is amazing..House paint can be removed. You got a good thing here. KEEP IT and drive it! Those pictures are awesome with that cool North Az moutains.

Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
One good thing about house paint...it'll trip off real easy. Maybe so easy, with stripper, that the paint underneath will not be affected. Factory paint doesn't strip very easy at all. Probably just sun burnt paint underneath.

Your welcome for the input.....now quit yer *****in' about a pretty damned solid 45 year old truck you picked up for less than a new set of tires! |
Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
Yep, that truck in this area would be considered above average. .. and I'm not even in the worst 'rust belt' states. I'd buy that truck in a minute. Rockers are cheap and easy to install. I wish I could find one that solid around here..

Re: Bummer.......rust 68 shortbed
Oven Cleaner will strip that paint off and leave the Original paint alone. Synthetic reducer works well also. I Just stripped and buffed out my buddies 58 VW Micro bus. With the Oven Cleaner
