What type of lube goes in the knuckle of the closed front axle?

I used 140wt gear oil in my 68 anything thinner would leak worse. some jeep guys use grease. I hated that axle! water in, oil out:lol: No mater what I did it leaked. I sure miss that truck though:lol:

The manual for my 62 calls for gear oil. Recently, someone posted the Dana factory manual, which you may find helpful. You need to search for it.

When I rebuilt my closed knuckles, I packed all the bearings with wheel bearing grease, like conventional wheel bearings. Now, I do not run oil in the knuckles, except for occasionally brushing some on the felt seals.
