Mexican 72 in Canada
4 Attachment(s)
I don't know if these are more common in the Southern States, but up here, this is the first one we've seen. My buddies dad picked it up from some farm workers, who drove it up here. Besides the different box, the gauges and most markings are in Spanish, and the speedo is in kilometers. Also a different air cleaner and accessory mounts in the engine.
He wants to loose all the Mexican parts, and add a stepside box. He wants to add a 67 front clip, drop it a bit with a 18 and 20 wheel combo, LS engine and overdrive. Just a nice mild driver. We've built quite a few 67-72s but never saw some of the stuff this truck has. Also, can't believe they drove it from Mexico in the mechanical condition it was in. Everything was worn out! |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
I have seen one local, here in So Cal, and it was a 69....with identical bed, etc. I dig the bed and would love to find one for one of my trucks!!

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
That's kinda weird but kinda cool at the same time. Never seen one before.

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Cool truck.
I would be interested in the dash bezel assembly if he wants to swap it out for a U.S. version. |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
I'll be danged, there was one for sale here in Phoenix, I thought the bed was off an old ford or something. I want that guage cluster! too cool
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
They aren't "common" in the South, but I have seen them. I dig the bed and cluster too.
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
its not everyday you see a truck like that even down here in the south, first time i ever saw something like that. i would leave it as is just add the drop and wheels .

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
I love that cluster! It would make for an awesome ratrod style build :metal:
The mexican blanket seat cover would be right at home. lol |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
I'm thinking the guage cluster would be the thing to have up yonder....y'all do adhere to the Metric format, right?
I saw some in Merida, Progresso, in March of '11. Took some pix of some, but I'll have to dig out my CD-ROM of that vacation and see what I have. |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
I've never seen one before. Kinda cool looking bed.
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
First time I saw these was a trip to Mexico for a week in 1982. They were common and I was surprised when I first saw them that a different bed was used down south of the border.
Have never seen one in Missouri or anywhere else in the USA for that matter. Pretty cool. |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Well, I know the box is going to be sold, in the next couple of months. And I think the cluster is probably going to go too. We do have Kilometers up here since our dumbass govt changed it in the 70s, but we all had 67-72s with MPH speedos, so it kinda looks funny to us. He hasn't decided on the speedo yet. I will post them for sale soon, as he wants to pull the box off and ship it out right away, due to not much space.

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada

Man that is kinda cool but I like my American fleetside much better, The cluster on the other hand now that is sweet!! Does it say "caliente":lol: |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Ay, caramba !
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
bed looks like a cross between an inverted 60-66 on the top half, 67-72 body line on the bottom half, and a 60-66 wheel opening. Very interesting old truck, thanks for posting.

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Been doing some research. Apparently it's called a CS-10 down there

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Wonder what the value of a restored stock Mexican version would be? If they are as rare as they seem to be, it ought to be worth saving as an original.
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Wow I would also think it is rare and not modify it, modify a different one and leave that one alone, maybe the drop and wheels, but it is cool, no one else will have one.:ito:

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
si diez... la troca es muy caliente !! You could tuck some serious rubber with that bed wheel opening!

I say he should keep the Mexico box, but he want's it to be a driver, and he's worried about fixing it if it got hit. I asked if I could buy the truck, but it's a long story, and the truck is not for sale. Just the box and other odd stuff. |
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
not many here. most of them ended up as permanant taco stands on the beaches in mexico
|
Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
Tell your friend it's foolish to take such a truck and change it. Go find another if that's what he wants. Here he's found something exceptional in itself and first thing he wants to do is go and change it to something common. Makes no sense to me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the box gets hit and is not repairable,THEN get a Stepside and put it n. Just look at how people are wanting the parts before they're even removed.

Re: Mexican 72 in Canada
useless info...
On the gas gauge, I'll assume that LL represents 'lleno' (FULL), while the V represents 'vacio' (EMPTY) The double-L sounds like a 'Y', so the word for 'full' sounds like "Yay-no" The word for 'empty' is similar to the English word 'vacant', except that the letter 'c' sounds like an 's'... vah'-see-oh. Yes, there will be a quiz later. Yes, it'll be on the final. No, it's not lunchtime yet.:ito: |
