Need help on a 1968 Inline 6 250 Engine

1 Attachment(s)
I have a 1968 C10 Fleetside of which I am doing a body off restoration, with a custom pain job. Everything is moving as expected for a first timer, but I have hit a bit of a roadblock. Attached is a picture of the retainer that clamps down the intake and exhaust manifolds. I am missing three of them.

Does anyone know where I can find these in the market? Or at least their part number and official name.

Thank you for the help.

I doubt you will find them outsde of a salvage yard. You might look in the classifieds here on the BB.It's free to look and see if they're offered or you can follow the link at the top of the page and subscribe. It's the best $25.00 you can spend on your restoration. Then you can post a WTB or want to buy ad.I've seen a couple sets of them in the JY the last year or so but didn't need them so I didn't get them.Guess I'll pick up the next ones since I'm keeping the 250 in mine.IIRC the 292 will have the same ones and almost any chevy 6 from the 60-70's should have them.About 1976 or so they went to an integrated head that has the intake/exhuast cast as a permanent part of the head.

Welcome to the site!!! I'm out of town right now but may also have a couple from another six I had. I'll look when I get back Monday and check back with you.

Post some pics of your truck when you get a chance.

If you are trying to make it original as in how it originally came from the factory there are a few problems in the photo.

There are eight, course threaded (3/8-16 NC) holes along the mounting surface on the head.
That first hole should not have a threaded stud. There should only be an unthreaded locating pin protruding above the surface. It threads into the head, but the only part visible, sticks out about 1/2" and is about 5/16" in diameter. The same locating pin is used in the last hole at the rear of the head.
There are only two threaded studs used on the head. The third hole in from the front and the third hole in from the rear. The stud is about 1 7/8" long. It has the 3/8 - 16 NC thread for screwing into the head and 3/8 - 24 NF on the outboard end for a nut.

The other four holes in the head use a 3/8 - 16 bolt.

There are two different type clamp pieces used. I've had headers on my truck for many years and I cannot remember how many of each of the clamps are used or their location along the manifolds.

You have a smog head in case you were wondering what those internal hex plugs are, that are above each of the exhaust ports.
That's either the wrong head for your truck or your truch should have the A.I.R. Smog pump un it.

Thank you for the response everybody. I just got back from vacation in a place with no internet access. Bad for doing research on parts, but great for disconnecting with work for a few a week.

I will post a more detailed picture tomorrow. As I am going back through the assembly process, I am finding that over the years many parts of this truck was assembled with what ever parts were lying around at the time.

In order to get this engine close to original, I could use some help with pictures of a motor that is in original condition.

As for the "hold downs", I know that I have the two on the engine, and one in my garage. Two are the larger one, and one is the smaller one.

Thanks, Again.

Check out my build thread. I just finished full resto on a 69 with a 250. It was a one owner original truck so I was able to put it as close to stock as I could get. Let me know if you need any specific pictures later on.
