So everyday here where I live, Its hot the humidity has been unbearable day and night. Right now Ive got the truck in the garage, Oil is dropped, coolant is dropped, alternator is off, changing a few gaskets, Intake, oil pan, valve cover gaskets, timing. the works. But by noon its so hot in the garage to stand it. Low and behold I hear a delivery truck pull up the drive..the headers are here!

It looks like you got work to be done!! be sure and post some pics when finished. Headers are one of those things where a little extra money spent really pays off...those are a good quallity header and should seal good and not give you any trouble. Your not too far from me...I use to run a route truck thru your town years ago

Don’t throw away those ram horn exhaust manifolds whatever you do. I know you won’t believe right now, but there will be a day when you will be ready to throw the headers in the iron pile and go back to manifolds. You will get tired of exhaust leaks (even on high quality headers like Hedman’s), burnt plug wires and starter issues. I went through that header stage in life once and for what little power gain headers provide, they are not worth the hassle. They look nice though! ;)

Those are nice headers for sure and will certainly last. I'd never toss a pair of manifolds, either. But,I will say I still like headers.I guess I'm just old school. The ones on my '72 K2500 have been on there since '04 and I have never touched them. The just take exhaust from the heads and send it out the pipes. Use the good gaskets, run your plug wires up and over using spreader looms, and use a heat shield or heat wrap on the starter. I guess my starters don't last as long as with manifolds, but not enough to notice between the trucks with and without. The turbo down tube on my '92 6.5TD runs tight to the starter and it lasted until this spring. I guess I hate replacing blown donut gaskets and studs more than header gaskets. I've actually had more manifolds fail than headers. Had one totally blow out the side. It was all expanded out from fatigue. That was a '71 truck in '89. I also had one crack all the way around and drop. Another fatigue issue. Manifolds aren't crap, but they fail just like anything else. I see it as 6 of one/half a dozen the other preference type of thing. Hasn't been enough of an issue for me to change my ways in right about 40 years. I've never bothered with heat shields, either.

Totally agree! Been there, done that.

Good headers that have a 3/8s flange won't blow gaskets like the old thin flanged headers did, plus they make great gaskets as well compared to the old ones.
Good headers last well, but the cheap ones will make you cuss that's for sure.

Re: Surprise from UPS!

Two other advantages of the rams horns are they are quieter and less heat is transferred into the engine compartment. Mine are 54 years old and work just fine. Never had headers that came close to that.

Thanks for the complements and advise guys, here's my progress at the moment, all in a days work. Been gone away from the truck the past few days haven't had much time to get much done, pulled the harmonic ballancer this morning and timing cover, thats all I could get done this morning was gone from the garage the rest of the day.

Trucks looking good nice progress. Going to be sweet when you get it all back together. Nice headers they look sick should work good, glad to see you spent some money on them. I personally like headers and have them on most of everything I own :D I agree the newer headers are better then the old ones, changing there gaskets are better then donuts and studs on the manifolds haha.
