Speedometer recondition
I just pulled the speedo cluster out of my '72 c/10 and I want to clean it up. The plexiglass lenses need polishing . I figure some very fine compound and some elbow grease. The whole black panel I plan to reprint and I am going to try black semi gloss. Don't know quite what to do with the silver paint ring just inside the speedo and gas gauge. Small brush and no coffee ! Any ideas would be appreciated

Re: Speedometer recondition
I used some Scratch X on my glass and it looked so much better. Didn't even take that much elbow grease, and mine was VERY dirty.

Re: Speedometer recondition
I do recommend the scratch x as well. I did one lense with a progression of finer sand paper to get the scratches and swirl marks out. While really tedious and time consuming it can yield glass like results. Also, a razor knife with a no. 11 blade and some painters tape can get it prepped for a beautiful silver paint job. Everything is dependent on how much time and effort you're willing to put in! It is very easy to over restore some of these truck parts, so careful consideration is always advised.

Re: Speedometer recondition
I use Meguiars fine cut paint polish on plastics and it works great! Speedometer lenses, tail lenses and anything made of plastic.
Work it buy hand or a small polish pad on a drill. :chevy: |
