rear end question

Hello everyone... I have a dilemma and need help, I have a 1969 c10 with a six lug leaf spring rear end, my rear end housing is pretty rusted and pitted... I wanted to convert the rear end over to five lugs because it is a posi rear end with 3.73 gears which is exactly what I wanted to run, my question is... can I pull out the posi unit and gears and get a newer rear end and install it into that rear end and into my truck? can anyone give me some insight on the matter and point me in the right direction please???:waah::waah::waah:

Like Hotrod C/10 said. 1.5 inches wider. Depending on your rim choice it will work. A 70-82 12 bolt of the same series should accept your gears and posi.I did it the other way, I put newer gears and carrier in my 70 housing and it worked. All this is provided you have a 12 bolt and not a dana.

Re: rear end question

yes it is a regular 12 bolt just a leaf spring rear end, so I can get a newer 72-85? the 1.5 extra is ok, I am going to run 295/50/15 on 8'' rims, I should be ok....

That 1.5" may give problems w/8" wheels should you have a lowered stepside--fleetside is more forgiving & more clearance.

Re: rear end question

I think you are right, luckily I checked my rear end and the pitting seems to be surface rust... now I just have to figure out what axles to order, how can I identify which ones I need to order???
