GM Tilt column Questions

:hiya:
I found a GM Truck tilt but the tilt joint has some slop is that a bad bearing or is it possible the bearing collar is just loose?
The guy is asking $300 for it even with the slop.
If the column needs to be rebuilt how much is it worth as a core I need to know how much to offer.

Thanks in advance.

Re: GM Tilt column Questions

What's a rebuild kit worth? I'm going to rebuild my non-tilt one (after 100,000 miles and 40 years I think any of them should be checked), and I imagine its no difference in price for the rebuild.

I don't think "new" ones are available, unless you want an aftermarket one. But if your cost for the core plus the rebuild comes to the same or less than an Ididit, you're probably at a fair price.

Re: GM Tilt column Questions

Sometimes the 4 bolts holding the upper part of the column become loose, easy fix after you remove the pivot pins.:chevy:

Re: GM Tilt column Questions

There is a bearing retainer and nut that could of come loose on the upper most bearing, although it would be hard to tell if this is the case, unless you would be disassembling it

Would be nice to know if the tilt knuckle was reprod...
