Swollen spark plug wires
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone ever seen anything like this; see pic?
Ordered the Petronix custom fit plug wires and here is what I get after 250 miles. Most of the wires are starting to do this close to the spark plug end. I am running the factory distributor with a Crane electronic ignition conversion on a 402. Wanted to keep engine compartment stock appearing and hate making plug wires...any ideas of the cause or wire recommendations appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Swollen spark plug wires
Low quality silicone compound in the sleeving. I have heard that could happen but yours is the first I have ever seen...

Re: Swollen spark plug wires
Having pictures is good documentation. I'd contact the manufacturer - looks like a manufacturing defect to me.

If NEVER seen anything like that before. Wow. MSD for me and never had any problems. Call the manufacturer and obviously stop drivin the truck until u swap them out.

Re: Swollen spark plug wires
Are they the stock style 7mm wires? If so i put a set on my car a few weeks back and have around four hundred mile on them....i will have a close look tomorrow!

Re: Swollen spark plug wires
I sent the manufacturer the pics, they had never seen it before either. New set on the way once I remove the old ones and send them back. Hopefully just a bad set of wires.
Bizarre for sure? |

Re: Swollen spark plug wires
You might think about hi-temp woven "sox" around your plug wires if they're real close to the manifold.
