s10 rear end

Hi Guys - Happy New Year!

I have an opportunity to buy a posi rear-end out of a 200 S10. It has disc brakes and I am wondering if it will bolt right on fit on my 1972 SWB with a minimal amount of modification. My truck has the coil suspension without leaf springs.
Thanks,
Mike

No. I don't think so. Different width, bolt pattern, etc.

Won't fit. There are other options out there.

I don't think it will be a direct bolt in. I'm pretty sure the width of the chassis on the s10 is larrower that on your 72. I would say that the only mods you would have to do is move everything on the axle to fit with your 72 chassis (shocks, spring mounts, ect..)

But that's just my guess. I'm not entirely sure, but I couldn't imagine anything lining up let alone be a direct bolt in.

Re: s10 rear end

S10 = 5 x 4.75" car pattern with 7/16" or metric studs (depending on year model). A 72 truck factory 12bolt was 5 x 5" truck/large car pattern with 1/2" studs.

72 truck 12bolt rear = approx 63.5" wide (wheel mounting surface to WMS) & have an 8.75" ring gear.
The S10 came in 2 different dimensions depending on if it was from a 2wd or 4wd truck. 2wd rears were 10bolt 7.5" or 8.5" ring gears (depending on model) @ 54" wide (WMS to WMS).

The rear can be swapped in but there will be obstacles to overcome.
