New from Texas

Howdy - I have been using this forum for a long time as a resource and finally decided to sign up. Truck is a 72 blazer that I have had since 1995. For various reasons it was parked from 1998 until 2011. Over the last year the 327 it had when I bought it has been replaced with a 454, added rear discs, switched to a quieter posi and a more street friendly rear gear ratio, swapped the drop spindles for standard and just ordered a set of stock height rear coils that will be installed soon. Along the way a lot of other stuff that has a tendency to wear ot has been replaced/upgraded. Now I am planning to get new wheels and tires (those 80s eagle alloys are a "little" dated) and I figured this would be a good place to get some opinions/guidance since that seems to be a regular topic here.

Not sure I will be ready in time. I want to get new wheels and tires and have a few other items that need to be buttoned up.

I'm curious why you would go from a manual to an automatic? Mine originally had the truck 4 speed (with the granny 1st gear and no good way to get from 2nd to 3rd smoothly) which I swapped for a saginaw 4 speed. Did you have trouble with the 3 speed, or just wanted to go auto?

Going with a 700R4 for the overdrive.Better cruiseability(not sure if thats a word)and just don't want to shift so much in town.

That makes sense - I'm considering the need for overdrive as well
