Catapillar inline Swap . Thoughts ?
I Just got hired on at a local mining shop with my uncle and with the job i was given a 50's-60's Cat Blade with a Cat inline 6 unleadded motor. i have no use for the blade it self but i was thinking. What the engine would be like in my c10 ? i understand it might be a bit more challenging then a regular inline 6 but i think it would definatley give my rig the "Diffrent" appeal im looking for. with this new job i have manys a perks. Access to a shop/tools big enough to fix mining trucks an loaders. But im wondering what would yall think about this kind of swap ?

Re: Catapillar inline Swap . Thoughts ?
I think the biggest issue would be the weight of that thing, plus I am sure the horsepower is a little on the low side? Just a guess, what engine is it, you can get all the specs from any cat performance handbook

Re: Catapillar inline Swap . Thoughts ?
Its a Smaller inline it looks to be the size of a stock chevy inline six. but wont be sure till i drag her out of the grave yard. Ill look and get a little more info on the engine itself i think the problem im gonna hit will be the trans.

Re: Catapillar inline Swap . Thoughts ?
Is this gas or diesel? If it is a Diesel, it may have an SAE bellhousing which would mean that it will mate with later transmissions or possibly an adapter to a TH400 exists. Does it run? I would think that you would need a heavier (C20?) front end to support the weight like a late Cummins swap. Even if it is small it is probably still pretty heavy. Parts may be an issue too. Cat does a great job keeping and/or finding parts for older units, but you pay dearly for that. If I wanted a Cat diesel power truck, I would look for 80s-90s medium duty trucks. I think parts would be easier to find, but I still think you will need a heavier front end.

im not to terribly worried on the swap its just an idea i had it ran when it was parked but not sure about now. it is a gas motor an i have 3/4 ton coils to help beef it up along with boxing the frame
