Stiff clutch 72
No slip runs and drives great. shifts as it should, but the clutch is extremely heavy. My main concern is my grandma is begging me to drive it because she had one in her younger (more limber) days, and I highly doubt she could manage to apply the clutch as it is. Any suggestions to loosen it up a bit?

Re: Stiff clutch 72
A few possiblities.
Throw out bearing shaft needs lubricating. Also, a worn pressure plate or maybe heavy duty clutc/pressure plate installed on the truck. I had this on my 69. It was very hard to push so I bought a non heavy duty pressure plate and clutch and made a lot of difference. |

On second thought, you may not want grandma to drive it.. ;)

Re: Stiff clutch 72
Oh its okay, better now than after the rebuild! she can't do too much damage at this point haha so I'll let her have her fun before I sink a lot of time and money into my baby! :p

Re: Stiff clutch 72
Sometimes the 3 finger pressure plates get very stiff.
Even a new 3 finger is stiffer than a typical diaphragm pressure plate. I put non-performance diaphragm pressure plate from autozone on 66 and pedal is much easier and smother. I also replaced linkage bushings w/ bronze. |
Re: Stiff clutch 72
Thanks for the advice! I'll look into these things!

Re: Stiff clutch 72
Autozone part number nu551 contains diaphragm pressure plate that fit 66 it also contains a clutch but that didn't fit 66. just compare to OEM before install.
