Different steering wheels
Can someone tell me if the 73-87 steering wheels fit a 72 model? Modifications needed? What about 88 models up?

Yes. Pretty much any GM wheels up until they started putting air bags in them will fit fine.

Re: Different steering wheels
It'll bolt onto the steering shaft, however, the horn may no longer function correctly. I tried a 2nd gen steering wheel on my 1st gen Blazer and couldn't get the horn to work right. Eventually put an original wheel back on. I think some folks just add an external horn button to avoid the hassle.

Re: Different steering wheels
My '72 GMC came with a later-70s steering wheel and the horn worked as normal. I have no idea what was done, but I swapped an original wheel on directly.

Re: Different steering wheels
Is Comfort-Grip the correct term for the wood wheel / aluminum 3 spoke steering wheel I've been seeing more of on here? My factory black wheel is shot and this might be the wheel I go with in the future. I have a 13" Grant on there right now.

Re: Different steering wheels
Heck, my wheel is from a 70-81 Camaro or early Chevelle.
Sometimes with the newer wheels, you may have to convert to the newer style cancel cam/horn button system. All of the parts are cheap and readily available. |

Just thought I'd toss that out there in case anyone wanted to put a Corvair wheel in. They are a nice looking wheel too. :( |
