Lower cross shaft adjustment??
1 Attachment(s)
I'm in the process of rebuilding my lower a-arms and I've come across a little problem. The cross shaft will thread left or right a couple turns- therefore I can adjust the alignment hole. Is there a set dimension for this? Right now I can set it between 3 1/16" and 3 7/16" (side of cap to centerline of alignment hole) where should it be?
Thanks!! |

Section 3 page 8 has the information you need in the factory service manual. If you don't have one download it here.

Re: Lower cross shaft adjustment??
Hmmm, doesn't seem like a very accurate description. It appears to be 1 1/4" from the "step" on the cross shaft (where the threads end) to the raised mounting pad on the control arm...

Re: Lower cross shaft adjustment??
Measure from the ledge at the end of the seal to the flange of the a-arm. on each side. Get it as close to center as possible.

Seems pretty clear,
"Bushing Replacement (Figs. 15 and 16) 1. Remove grease fittings from bushing outer ends and unscrew bushings from control arm and shaft. 2. Slide new seal on each end of shaft and insert shaft into control arm. 3. Start new bushings on shaft and into control arm. Adjust shaft until it is centered in control arm, then turn bushings in and torque to specifications. Figure 16 shows correct final positioning of shaft. Check shaft for free rotation and install grease fittings." |
