floor shifter removal
 
HI HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE FLOOR SHIFTER ON 1972 1/2 TON C 10 IT IS A 4 SPEED I REMOVED THE FLOOR BOOT , BUT DONT SEE HOW TO REMOVE IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS A HOLLOW PIN THROUGH THE ROUND BALL THAT THE SHIFTER IS CONNECTED TO ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED STEVE:chevy:

Make sure it's in neutral, then push down on the "ball" and turn counter clockwise a quarter turn and then lift the shifter straight up and out. Hope this makes sense to you

GM techs used to have a special tool, but I've seen guys do it with a big pair of channel locks. Sometimes I cut 5/8'' wide notch in a short 2x4 stud, about 1-1/2'' deep --push down and twist.

Same premise but the easiest way is to put a large screw driver in the corner of the retainer (where it makes the 90* turn) then smack it downward and counter clockwise at about a 45 degree angle. Pops right out that way. This is the way I have alwasy done them. Use a screwdriver with a good blunt tip.
