Wheels hitting caliper brackets
 

So I've got some 15x10 aluminum outlaws that I'm trying to put on my 71 K10 and they are hitting my caliper brackets. I don't have the calipers on yet and I think if I did I wouldnt even get the wheel on. I searched and found a thread saying there are different types of wheels that accommodate for the front disc brakes. I've got the 15s wrapped in brand new 33/12.5/15 goodyear duratracs and do not wanna change tires.

Some members said you need to grind down a little bit of the bracket to fit but I just dont see it working out for me. I do have some wagon wheels that work fine but I'd like to put on the some chrome or aluminum wheels on. Can anyone recommend some 15x10 wheels for me? or some advise? Thanks

Has anyone used US wheel 97 series in 15x10 before? Will they clear the calipers?

They must be hitting pretty bad if you can't even grind them down...

By the time Outlaws came out all wheels were made for disc brakes. Never heard of this problem before. I've put 15" wheels on K/20s and it's the caliper,along the casting seam,that needs grinding. Never heard of grinding the brackets. I never even knew what the backspacing was on any wheel I ran in all these years. You just bought by the diameter and width. I sold wheels to people with other brand trucks and never had any that said they didn't fit. This is a mystery. If these are 10" I'm sure they have a RWD Offset. Back before wheel got all queer the aftermarket made one size fits all. It didn't make sense to make dozens of variations. Still doesn't but idiots are winning these days :cool:. Are your ball-joints in good shape? I dunno,I'm at a loss :confused:

How much clearance should I have without worrying about it?

clearence is clearence... if you can bolt them up and they aren't hitting then you are good, even if it's 1/8"... the wheel should never get closer to the brake caliper while driving, if so it's bent.

These are 10x15 wagon wheels on my old '71 K/20 that I ground a small amount along the casting seam of the caliper. All that matters is that it doesn't touch. As msgross said,clearance is clearance. All parts concerned are bolted together and move together.
