What year is my frame?

I am curious as to what year my frame is? I have done some research, and from what I can tell, based on the last digit being the year, it might be 1970? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What year is my frame?

I checked last night and the frame also has 467 stamped by the frame horn up front. The frame does have the dimples for power steering from the factory. Also stamped on the side of the frame on both sides it has 3935801-467, 2-15-31. Maybe this will help.

That is not the stamp you are looking for. The format is wrong, probably a part number or other stamping. Look on the top of the frame rail between the driver upper control arm and the steering gear box. The same exact stamp will be on top of the driver frame rail under the cab. You are looking for an 8 digit stamp with the second digit being a letter.

Examples:

9S123456

9= 1969 (first digit is the year)

S= Saint louis assembly

123456= assembly sequence/partial VIN (6 digits only)

7A123456

7= 1967

A= Atlanta assembly

123456= assembly sequence/partial VIN

let us know what you find. ;)

The S66040 is the number stamped on top of the frame by the steering gear box as well as under the cab on top of the frame rail. That is why I couldnt ever find anything online. It seems to be missing a digit or 2. I wonder if any other years came in this format, where there is only 6 digits? Do you think that maybe the stamp messed up somehow.

Here are 2 more images from my frame. I have heard that some years dont have the dimples for power steering. Not 100% sure on that.

67 trucks do not have the provision for a modern style power steering box mounted to the frame as they were equipped with a ram assist system the cylinders that mounted to the steering linkage.

These are the only numbers that I could find on my frame as well. I couldn't find any other numbers where everyone has said to look either.?

Well that narrows it down to 68-72, I saw on a different thread where some guy was saying that the 467 numbers on the front meant it was made 4-1967, but that goes against what you are saying. Also I read that the 67's dont have that provision in a few threads. Thanks for the help.

BBC Mudtruck:
I have searched til i was blue in the face on here, and no luck. Its like a partial vin or something, My cab is a 72 cab and front clip, the bed is from a different year, not sure which, but has the bed side marker lights of the newer years, I only assume my frame does not match because I cant find the numbers on my frame anywhere on the VIN number.

Where does the rear brake line end (steel line) On the pass frame rail or in the center of crossmember just behind the axle??

Re: What year is my frame?

Could be a GMC frame from St. Louis, 1968 to 1971 GMC Vins only had 5 digits.
And 1970 is the only year they started with 50001. 68, 69, and 71 started with 10001.
So my best Guess is the frame is a 1970 GMC from St. Louis.

It ends on the passenger side frame rail. Then runs over the top of the rear axle.

I wondered if that was the case as some threads mentioned GMC frames didn't have partial vins on them. For now this seems like the most logical answer since it doesn't have the partial vin like a chevy. Is there any difference in a 70 gmc and 70 chevy frame?
