Disc conversion on a 68, Which front hoses?
I am doing the stock 73-87 disc brake conversion on my 68 swbss using CPP spndles with my stock 68 frame and a arms, and was wondering what others were doing for the front brake hoses. The ones that come with the kit are fairly long and require a loop turned in them to clear the frame and a arms. I was thinking about trying the 71-72 truck hoses which fit the factory disc brakes. I know that GM put the brake lines in front of the cross member from 73 on because of the hose routing, but did they run the 71-72 in front also? How do the 71-72 hoses fit?

71-72 routes to the front also.
But the stock steel connection is a different size on the left side of the truck compared to the right side. I recently saw a member use 70-72 chevelle disc brake hoses. (I haven't verified this myself) |

Here is a link form my S/S install with pictures. Factory disc brakes on my 71 truck. I would also like to say that I have swapped the 71 calipor's for 72 models and u can get them just about any place. The hoses are differant from 71 to 72 also how they make up on the calipor.;):chevy:

Re: Disc conversion on a 68, Which front hoses?
Thanks for the pictures and information. Your pictures show a truck with the brake lines in the front of the cross member, my original lines and the lines in the disc brake conversion kits everyone sales for the 67 to 70 trucks are in the rear of the crossmember and I have tried a few different hoses and I can't find a way to route them that I feel completely comforable with. The hoses either come close to the frame or contact the caliper when the wheel is turned. Does anyone sell a kit to convert to the 71-72 brake lines?

Re: Disc conversion on a 68, Which front hoses?
Here is what I did. I took a set of 71-72 disc brake hoses and turned them around. The hose goes back from the caliper and in toward the caliper instead of forward and away. Had to grind new dimples for the hose and pin. It then runs to the original 68 rear mounted brake line point rear of the cross member. Dosn,t interfere with anything and can't.
