Clink Clunk when putting in gear

sometimes i get a clink when I put my truck in gear either FWD or Rev, I thought it was the U joints, but I got under neath they all feel tight, I tried to shake and move them up and down by hand, no kind of movement, at all.

any thoughts, maybe my pinion gear is wore, I had the gear fluid changed a couple of years ago, and the garage said everything looked good inside no issues or shrapnel was found

U joints and carrier bearing are about 3 years old

Have you greased the u-joints?Carrier bearing? I always try to pick the low hanging fruit first. There are any number of things it could be but these seem to be the easiest to do and see what happens.

Did you block the wheels and put it in neutral to check the drive line. That relieves any pressure on the components. Hard to say without being there. It doesn't take much movement to produce a noise.

My TH350 seems to shift cleaner now that I re-did all my grounds. Sometimes it clunks, sometimes it doesn't. Gonna clean the diff and lube the joints and see if that helps.

You're not always able to get any movement from a bad u-joint. You should also look for evidence of rust or metal filings. Also, if you can, put it up on a hoist with someone in the driver's seat to put it in gear and slowly accelerate while you watch the u-joints for any wobble or shake.

Check your motor mounts and tranny mounts as well. A busted motor mount will sometimes cause a "Clunk" when a rig is put in gear.
