Not getting fuel to the carb
 

Hey guys,

I have a 67 C20 327 engine, I am not getting fuel to the carb. I pulled the line from the tank and made sure it was clear, also cleaned the sock. I then ran a rubber fuel line from the tank to the new fuel pump. I removed the fuel pump and re-installed , just to make sure it was installed correctly and it is. I'm still not getting any fuel.

Could it be the cam that works the pump? Any thoughts on other issues.

have you checked to see that there is gas in the tank above the fuel pickup level

LOL, yes, I put 5 gallons of gas in just to be sure. It is on the low side, less than a 1/4 tank.

Have you checked your oil level? Possible fuel pump diaphram rupture. Also what carburetor? If Q-jet, look for the little filter where the fuel line goes into the carb.

Oil level is good, also its a new fuel pump. I believe it is a Q-jet... I pulled the line at the carb and cleaned the filter there.

I had this problem once. It turned out to be junk stuck in the fuel sending unit at the tank. I began by disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and sticking the end of the fuel line in a 2 litter bottle. I had a friend crank it over just enough to see if fuel came out of the line. I then began to trace the line back, repeating the process at every hose/line/inline filter (if applicable) connection until I found the problem.

for some reason or another i've had this same problem in the past also .heres what i did.
first and foremost make sure there is more than enough gas in the tank.
you'll need compressed air.
pull the line from the tank off the fuel pump and place a catch pan/jug under it.
cover your hand over the gas filler neck and poke your air nozzle through your fingers and blow the gas will eventually run out the line. get back over there and reconnect the pump and try it.
just becareful gas is very flamable;)

Well, the issue has to be in the tank. I unplugged the fuel line under the cab and stuck it in a gas can, she fired right up. sounds like a tune up is in order, but not bad for not having run in over a decade.

Good find. Sounds like the fuel sock may be dirty and collapsed.

yeah, I thought I had cleaned it but I guess its to far gone. I'll have to order a new sending unit, could be worse. Like I said not bad for not running in more than a decade.

you might want to pull the gas tank out and at least clean the loose stuff out that has resulted in your blockage/// failure to do so will result in a blockage in your new unit

And save the float for the sending unit. Some of the new ones can be pretty poor quality.
