67 70 manual throttle
I am installing a manual throttle in my 69 k10. It was born with it, but was gone when I bought the truck. I need your help. I need a picture of the brace that hold the cable stationary to the cab/firewall. This is the earlier style that connects to the pedal inside the engine compartment. Please and Thank you, Bruce

Re: 67 70 manual throttle
I think the OP is looking for the hand throttle cable that is located below the wiper or light switch and pulls on the throttle pedal assembly.

Thank you for the responses. 1972RedNeck, you are correct. I need just a picture of the bracket that holds the cable and were it is mounted. Bruce

They didn't really use a bracket. There is a small barrel clip like the one circled in the picture. You push the cable through the firewall, install this barrel clip on the cable housing, and push the barrel clip into the firewall until the two small tabs on the clip rest against the firewall. I have two throttle assemblies out in the shop but I'm not sure what year they are. I will try to remember to look in the morning and take a picture of it installed on the cable. LockDoc |
Re: 67 70 manual throttle
LockDoc,
Awesome pic, this is news to me. I guess the search starts again. With this picture, I can see I have a portion of the barrel. Any idea where/how to find one of these "barrels". Thank you, Bruce |
Re: 67 70 manual throttle
Probably will be tough to find. I know I've lost many of these on vehicles while working on them. Just such a small part. But,maybe someone does make them. I know the old rear engine air cooled VWs used them, too. I'm sure one could be made from rod stock. Bore & tap through the center, drill hole for cable, and cut to length. Hopefully someone will simply have one to offer

Sorry for the delay on the pic. Some of the labels are hard to read. The second one says "These tabs spread out inside the firewall to lock the barrel clip in place" and the third one says "These indentations lock the cable in place". LockDoc |
Re: 67 70 manual throttle
LockDoc,
These pictures and instructions are very helpful and clear. There is a lot of info about the 71-72 cables and bracket, I had no idea the earlier were held by this barrel. I have a portion of this in the firewall with a clip or two missing. Are these made out of unobtainium? I may have to try to manufacture one. Thanks again, Bruce |

They certainly aren't easy to find because many of them are lost like special-k said, or broken when people try to remove them. You can buy barrel clips at almost any auto parts store. They are used to hold some of the fender emblems on our trucks. I bought some at NAPA for the bowtie emblems on the fenders of my '67. They are pretty brittle but you may be able to modify one to hold the cable in. If you can find the right size they might work without modification. Here are some images of them. The longer ones would work the best. https://www.google.com/search?q=barr...clips&tbm=isch LockDoc |
