door handle thumb button
1 Attachment(s)
This is why I need the interior panel off. The chrome button that you press with your thumb has decended into the door. Oddly, the door still opens when you push the button that has sunk deep into the door handle. Has anyone delt with this problem?

Very common problem with these trucks. If you look on the parts board you will find someone selling a good used one or you can buy new reproduction ones from any parts vendor. There are posts on here about repairing them also. For the best search results use the GOOGLE search box at the top of this page. Type your search words into the box, (keep it simple) click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the GOOGLE button. Just make sure the thread you are looking at refers to your style of truck. (Hits will include all years) LockDoc |
Re: door handle thumb button
My drivers side door did the same thing two weeks ago. I took the door apart and found the parts and put it back together. I know it won't last, so I will have to buy a new one soon.

Re: door handle thumb button
I would not mess with repair, like others have said you will be taking it apart a week from now or month from now and if your lucky maybe 6 months. They are easy to get for replacement.

Re: door handle thumb button
Unless you have 67 doors and handles....

Re: door handle thumb button
Wire brush it good and bend over what is left of the tabs and JB weld the crap out of it. I can't tell you how long it will last because my drivers door was repaired like this 306,000 miles ago and it still works perfect.

Re: door handle thumb button
I fixed mine. I there is a plate that is crimped in that retains the spring and post. you can drill some small holes and wire the plate back in place, add a little epoxy for extra security and poof your door handle works again.

Re: door handle thumb button
I fixed mine by drilling 2 small holes by where the holding tabs were and slid in some finnishing nails all the way through and then bent the end so it could not fall out. this holds the button in the slot so it cant be pushed through and into the door and it cost is just about a pennys

Re: door handle thumb button
Mine has been missing since I bought my truck but there's still something in there to push so I left it alone, kind of an anti theft feature since my locks keep getting stuck its amazing how many ppl can't figure it out
