Need help picking first car
 

I been really giving this a thought but dont know which one to choose. I know it is what i prefer but would like to get some outside input.
First choice : 1968 c10 Shortbed Fleetside: 305 tpi, 700r4, ford 9inch dark purple Minitub, My dad built this truck.
Second : 1998-02 Firebird formula or trans am. ls1 and would be a 6 speed

The C10 will outlive 10 of those T/As, and you'll be there to witness it, whichever your decision. IMHO, If you're a youngster, the C10 is a safer car for you.;)

Your first car should be a 4-door sedan like a caprice- that way you will be around for the second car...

Lol I'm in the same boat. 68 short fleet or I can find a 90s b-body gm (Impala Caprice Roadmaster etc) I picked the 68 to be different and I may go get a bbody to use as a winter car, or find a 4x4 longbed 68 :D

Imo, the fireturd would get better mpg but the 68 you'd be able to work on if it broke.

68 C10: will continue to appreciate or hold its value. You'll get thumbs up as you drive it to school or work. You'll be able to haul all your other toys (bikes, sound system, barbeque grill, quads, etc).

Bird: has already depreciated significantly and will continue to do so. No one will even notice what you are driving around in. You'll be able to haul your dirty laundry and that's about it. Determining it needs to be a six speed will super limit your pool of available vehicles to the one or two left in the country and that are priced using the "Barrett Jackson method".

I've got both. A 1970 CST10 and a 1998 Camaro (same same the trans am). If I had to choose one. It would be the C10

Get an 18 month old (ie: already depreciated) modern car like a Ford Taurus or something you like the looks of (the new Impala looks cool too). Whatever you can afford.

Then it won't break down, you don't have to monkey with it, it has 18 air bags, stability control, traction control, torque management, and you'll live long enough to own a string of classic trucks.

The Firebird/TA is nice, but be sure you test drive. That generation is not fun to live with getting in and out of all the time. And the passenger floor hump is ridiculous. It was originally for the catalytic converter I think but they left the stamping in even after moving the converter.

Long and short, if you're not single or a teenager, or if you have a job you need to get to, having one of these trucks as a daily driver is not for everyone.
