Vintage Air /No Heat

My 72 truck has Vintage Air and I have no heat which means no driving on cold days and needs ideas on what to check .Both heater hoses are hot to the firewall .Any help will be much appreciated ,the installer no longer works for the shop that installed it .

My truck with VA takes a while to get any decent heat blowing out the vents, several miles at least. Which controller do you have? I have the controller that uses the stock heater/AC controller. It's kinda lame, in my opinion, and does not function properly. Is the lower core tube hose connected to the intake manifold and the upper to the radiator or water pump? Next I would bypass the funky valve in the heater hose and see if that helps. If the hoses are correct and the bypassed valve does not improve things I would disconnect the heater hoses and gently run garden hose water through the core to see if it flows well.

Do you know if your system is electronic or cable operated? The first thing I would check would be the valve on the heater hose, look at it's position when it's "off", then look at it again when it's "on" to see if it has moved (opened.) If both hoses are hot to the touch, that tells me it's open and your heater core is not plugged, so that is likely not the problem.

Also, is the truck up to temp when you say you have "no heat." It takes a loooong time for my truck to warm up in the winter (4 core radiator), so it takes a long time before I have heat, but once the truck is up to temp, my VA systems kicks out very hot air.

I can drive the truck all day long and no heat comes from the vents ,it has a large aluminum radiator and Im using the stock heat controls ,was a non A/C truck originally . I will try to look and see how the hoses are fitted tonight when I park the El Camino back in next to it .I also put another new thermostat in thinking the other one was stuck with no change (190) I think .
