How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
One inch long, maybe 1/8 inch wide rust hole in exhaust pipe I want to fill until I get new pipe. Why? The sound is "flubbing" and I really like the sound of the v8 so I want to plug up the hole. Rust, heat. Any products out there that would work? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
they are all temp, repairs , best to cut out bad and replace piece, but to band aide it take a soup can and knock ends out , split side , wrap around pipe , put a couple hose clamps on it and you have a metal band aide this is just a temp type repair

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
Not the best way, but quick and affective.
Try to find some header wrap, or fiber cloth and band clamp it around the pipe. Wrap it several times around the pipe, right at the hole so you have three or four layers. Or, if you can weld take a piece of pipe and scab over the whole, then stack tacks till its welded out. Quote:

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
Go to your local parts store and get the wrap that goes around the pipe and sets up after it gets hot. Actually made for your situation. I think it was under $20 last i used it.

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
weld it shut if the surrounding pipe is good. best way to fix it and will last the longest.just take your time so you dont burn more holes in it

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
I think 3m and others make exhaust pipe joint sealer. Comes in a tube. You could cut a piece of metal 1" or so larger than that hole, grind or sand the area around the hole, apply joint sealer between the two then clamp them together. It's cheap and no welding required. The sealer should be available at any auto parts store.

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
I had the same issue on my truck and stopped at a small muffler shop. They guy chopped out a section, replaced it and refused payment. Fast forward I had a broken hanger that needed to be welded. Same thing no charge. I'd bet if you roll in a shop at a slow time they'd be willing to patch it up cheap.

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
You guys are great. I like boogs idea since I just want to squeeze some goop into the hole and seal it. Yes I'm lazy, it's a small hole and eventually I'll replace the whole pipe. Thanks

Re: How to plug hole in exhaust pipe
I agree with the shop idea. I know my local guy wouldn't charge me more than 20 bucks. Wouldn't hurt to stop in and see. Never know, the shop guy might be a big fan of your truck and hook you up!
