70 gmc blazer truck
New member here might be a stupid question but found a blazer that has a truck cab and a solid one piece body looks as no welding of cab to body has occurred. The owner says they bought the blazer fairy new and it was a rare option. Just seeing if anyone has heard of this.

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
One piece body never happened. There was a cab top offered by a company, just as Scouts and Broncos had (Jeeps, too). I suppose it could have been ordered from the Silver Book and roped into the new vehicle price, but not a factory option.

Like Tim said there were aftermarket/accessory half tops with a steel bulkhead available. Post up a picture or two.

The option / build sheet says it is a blazer with heavy duty aux seat and rear seat equipment. Have not seen in person yet

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
Well there ya go. It was a base model with no bucket seat option. the no option arrangement was just a driver seat. The passenger seat was an option as well as the rear seat. We refer to these now as utility buckets. Even the full top was an option. A rear seat opted proves it certainly was not built as it sits now, unless the Beverly Hillbillies were the original owners

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
I agree with what has been posted. And as Tim says, after seeing the last picture someone took a truck cab and modified that Blazer. If you are looking for a Blazer it will take a lot of work and money to turn that back into a Blazer.

Thanks for info the daughter swears her husband purchased it this way might be some memory loss going on

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
I've seen a 2wd Blazer done this way and I liked it. it was done very well. Kinda like the Ford unibodies, but a tad short. I think this is a great think to do with all the Blazer frames with rust ruined bodies. You lose the top-off option that makes K/5s so cool, but you gain a cool truck. Hey, back when new people were buying those top conversions. This is better, IMO. It would make a great snow plow truck, something I always considered. It would heat beater, keep windows clear better, maneuver better than any pickup, and allow for a rear mount salt spreader. Rusted cab corners on the truck cab wouldn't matter and you build 1/4 panels from truck bedsides

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
Sounds like what is commonly called a Trazer conversion.

Just got another pic they still swear they bought it this way a year old

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
It has truck doors (window frames), definitely not factory. It also has upper trim, not an option on blazers.

Don't believe anything someone says, go by what you see.

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
Is it a GMC? if so it's a Jimmy. Or is it a Chevy? How much do they swear it's worth? Do they have a computer? Refer them to this website so they can learn something. Have them give you a picture of the SPID so we can see the model number and this rare option listed

That truck is worth something to the right buyer. The problem is your pool of right buyers is fairly small. If a true Blazer has 100 buyers, I would guess that the Trazer has 5 buyers. If it isn't cheap, I wouldn't buy it unless you really like it. |
Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
I think half-cab Blazers are cool looking.

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
The parents 88 yrs old are selling the blazer for there daughter in law the daughter in law, the son died, said they purchased this blazer when it was about a year old or fairly new and said it was rare when they bought it the mother agrees with everything also I'm thinking they don't know what's going on with it

Re: 70 gmc blazer truck
That makes sense. It's very possible it was purchased that way. Today there are brand new cars and trucks now that are purchased and majorly customized. It's very possible that it happened back then too. Someone bough tin new in 1970, and then took a pickup can and made the Blazer into a permanent half cab Blazer.
It's certain that truck did not come from the GM factory like that. |
