Found something new when putting in 4 core radiator
Yesterday I installed the 4 core radiator I have had kicking around for a while. It is in my 70 longhorn orginal 350 4 spd truck. It now has a 700r4 although that does not affect anything on this project.
So I picked up a set of 4 core brackets and rubbers from a local guy that bought them from LMC as I could not find the ones I have somewhere in my piles. They are galvenized but a can of paint can fix that. Overall good quality and fit good. When I pulled the lower brackets out they were riveted in so I had to drill those out. In the core support there is a 5/16" hole for the rivet then a small slot used for keeping the bracket aligned. I found that the 3 core rad brackets sit down in the core support as there is a lip the runs around the edge closest to the fan about 1/4" tall. So I found that the 4 core brackets will not sit down to the core support correctly. I got out the tin snips and clipped the lip and bent it down so the brackets would sit down all the way. The next problem was that the holes in the core support are positioned so the radiator is right against the vertical lip on the core support. The 4 core brackets if put in the holes would make the radiator interfere with the vertical lip. So i had to redrill those holes and the alignment slots. Just wondering if anyone has a pict of a 4 core core support where the lower rad brackets sit? Has anyone else ran into this situation? |

Sounds like what I had to do. My original core support was destroyed in an accident and I did not think to strip small part off it before tossing so I stretched my 3 core mounts and ran into this same thing. All together now and seems fine.
