Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
1 Attachment(s)
Usually I will only cut a longbed fleet side down to a short bed if it is a rough truck needing suspension or drivetrain or paint and body work, or all of the above. I've never cut a #s matching truck, an A/C truck or a survivor truck. I've made a 67 C20 long bed into a C10 short bed. Currently I have a 71 C10 with a 68' front clip that had miss matched rough long bed sides needing body work. It's now a short bed with brand new straight short bed sides.
Recently a guy who looked at my 69 GMC short wide ask if I would shorten my Cheyenne Super? He said he would buy it only if it was a short bed. It's a # matching 350/TH350 w/Air Conditioning. Besides a mid 90s bench seat and single DIN radio the interior and exterior are in good condition and original. I don't think its a good idea to cut such an original good condition Cheyenne Super? What do you think? |

I'm a cut down long bed kind of guy, but............... I think this one should stay long (can't believe I said that) I would lower it and run it like that.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
I converted my 72 Cheyenne Super C20 survivor to a SWB C10, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Do what YOU want and what's best for you. I wouldn't convert one just to sell it, way too much work to please someone else.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
I am of the opposite thinking than Zepp Short frame and short bed change over would make it worth more [to certain people] I have 5 trucks that I'm gonna build two of those are long to short change overs. I am not cutting a frame or bed however just doing a change over. The very first one I got a 70 long pretty decent truck at that time, The very first person that saw it when I got it home said if it were short I'd be a buyer. So there you go. I have heard that forever though If it were [opposite of what i had] I'd be a buyer. Back when my inventory was large I'd show a truck and they would say that then i'd carry them out back and show just what they said they would buy just to call them on it. 75% of the time it was BS

If he doesn't already have a truck, tell him to find a shortbed, don't make one! If it was for your own purposes because you were attached to that particular truck but wanted it in shortbed format, OK, but I think it's a great looking truck as it sits now.

I'll buy it from you as a longbed....see I like shorts too but can't see cutting one down that is that nice

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
To cut down to sell is a big job and I doubt buyer will give you what your time and effort is worth in the purchase deal. IMHO that truck is way too nice to cut up anyhow,I'm beginning to wonder if there's more shorts on the road now than were ever built by gm lol. Seems everyone cuts them down in the U.S where here I can count on one hand how many shorts I've seen real or fake in 30 years.

Ive cut a truck before ,, I would never cut that one

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
If you're getting more money for the truck as a shorty as opposed to long, do it
|
Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
Straight to the point .... Not.... If that truck is as solid and og as it looks that would be a shame dam near!

Are you nuts???...How much do you want for it long?

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
I'd leave it. It's perfect just the way it is.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
That is a sweet rig. I vote leave it alone!

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
Whack it. ;)

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
if your thinking of chopping it just so you can sell it, I can guarantee your very unlikely to get much reward for the time, money, and work that goes into shortening it. It's a nice truck and I'm sure somebody will buy it as is. If your wanting to shorten it for your enjoyment than that is a different story.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
I think that is a fair price, at least in the ballpark for that truck. No way on earth would I cut it to sell, you might increase the buyer pool a bit, but the effort and time involved would negate that, and you won't get a whole lot more money that what you are asking now if it is cut down. If anything, put the stock stuff back in and let it roll.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
Leave it long.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
To shorten a nice truck like that to help sell is foolish since you can leave it as is and sell it to one of the many true truck guys out here who can appreciate a nice truck.

Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
I don't have a problem with cutting or converting one, but I don't see the future in cutting that one to sell.
I like them all, long and short, narrow and wide. I would have to have all the money before I cut. I have had too many people walk away from a deal. |

I have cut em before and will again. On that truck I think I would not cut it until it belonged to the new buyer. Then, (and only then) discuss cutting it for them. I don't think I would ever want to do one for another person, and never in a hurry to move it along. The problem as I see it is this; He has a long bed for a fair price that nobody wants to buy and he knows if it were a short bed it would have already been sold. Sad, but true.:waah: |
Re: Shorten or not ? Cheyenne Super long bed to a short bed
If I wanted a swb i'd buy one. If I wanted a lwb i'd buy that. But not a cut frame.
To me it decreases the value of the truck. Some people it doesnt bother but i want pay top dollar for a cut frame truck. Leave it as it is |
