Tailgate anti-theft

I spent a lot of time and effort finding a tailgate for my 72 project and want my efforts to pay off for a LONG time. Anyone out there use "keyed" bolts for their gates, or other products? found this place but they want 100$ min order. www.brycefastener.com

Your local bolt supply should be able to take care of you with secure Torx bolts. That should be enough to deter most thieves.

buy a set of those "Anti-Tamper" "Torx" bolts.....

how many people carry these kinds of tools around with them? but we all know, if they want it bad enough, they're gonna take it, but why make it any easier for them, I'm gonna be nervous as hell just getting gas and walking away even for a second or two, guess I better just look at some good insurance and a GPS device..... just my recommendation.

Dang....guys beat me to the punch.....

as an added measure, i fill the opening in the head of the fitting with JB Weld type epoxy. most people dont notice it at car shows but what a pain to dig out and remove. thwarts criminals too.

10 bucks gets you a universal socket that'll make short work of any proprietary bolt. Filling the head with solder matches up pretty good, just make sure the bolt head is rounded.

That's why you use solder, not epoxy.

If their going to steal the tailgate it's highly likely they'll just take the whole truck ! It's faster and easier to hot wire the truck than remove the tailgate .I'm pretty sure I could have the whole truck and be "Gone in sixty seconds " Where exactly are you parking it that has you so worried about the tailgate ?:chevy:

Weld it closed like the doors on the General Lee. Or, run a beat up tailgate that nobody would steal, and throw your cherry one on the shelf, and only install it on special occasions like Easter or Christmas:)

I was thinking the same thing... I haven't heard of a "tailgate theft" on a new or old truck in many many years, and I have a lot of friends with trucks. The 73-87 gates are way easier to steal, they pop off in seconds.

I know the feeling though, I paid $450 for a New Mexico original paint no bow tailgate like 8 years ago, I'd hate to have that come up missing, it's not so much the money, but the factory steel tailgate. The repro stepside gates are actually pretty well built, but the fleet gates are still very lacking.

The trim did get bent up on it, but the gate is not.

I'd like to see this magic socket. I could replace several drawers' worth of sockets.

They're popular with bike thieves.

I have one of these and I have a hard time getting any bolt off with it maybe its because I try to use it for partially rounded bolts and nuts but that's what the add said "gator socket use on any fastener no matter the condition" or something like that

When you live in a city you've seen people steal just about anything for any reason, just trying to make it a little harder for them. Plus I'm just a little paranoid.
