Is there any harm Question?
On a two groove water pump pulley with different diameters, will there be any harm to the alternator or air conditioning compressor when belting off of this type of water pump?

Re: Is there any harm Question?
Not a problem unless you try to run 2 belts to the same accessory.

Re: Is there any harm Question?
There will be a change in the pulley ratios. Same as changing sprocket teeth on a bike or ring and pinion in a car. On most accessories it probably won't matter. In some cases it might take an accessory out of the sweet spot. Or it might put it in the sweet spot.

Re: Is there any harm Question?
Didn't the AC run off the crank pulley the only one i new that ran off the water pump pulley was the fan the power steering runs off the crank as well

Re: Is there any harm Question?
All the a/c equiped cars/trucks that I've dealt with used both the crank and w.p. pulleys.

I have kinda the same thing only different:

Re: Is there any harm Question?
Crank pulley drives both AC as well as Alt and power steering, a larger water pump pulley will make the water pump impeller turn a little slower, with a smaller water pump pulley will turn the pump impeller a little faster.
The only thing that affects the AC will be the crank pulley diameter and AC pulley diameter, for the alt will be crank diameter pulley and the alt pulley diameter. |
