Warn hub dilemma???

1 Attachment(s)
Taking apart my hub today and can't seem to get the main gear out. Here's whats going on: pulled the snap ring and the lg retainer, pulled out the inner gears and put the Allen head screws back in a little for leverage to pull out the main gear but can only wiggle it in and out slightly. Found some small broken pieces of metal inside. Am I missing a step? Can't see anything that might prevent me from pulling it out. I shot a short video but can't upload it. Any ideas???

Never having taken one apart before, I'm going to bet that flat ring with the four notches has to be unscrewed.
MAC, Snap-on and other companies sell a Dana 44 front axle socket that's got four teeth on it. My guess is that socket engages those notches, and you unscrew that ring, which is holding the pieces in.

There is a socket with four teeth on it that loosens the lock nut. Then you can pull it apart. That nut is what tightens the bearings there is also a washer and another nut behind that I believe.

there is probably a burr on the inside of the hub that is holding it back, just give it a little tap in with a hammer and see if there is come crap holding it up, here is a picture of a new one so you can see that there is nothing holding it. those lock rings just retain the hub and bearings
you can also google warn hubs and find a lot of info. if people serviced their front hubs more often they wouldn't have any problems

Yep, that's what I figured too with all the small pieces of metal in there. Time and pressure back and forth plus shooting air and degreaser plus perseverance equals success :metal: The PO gave me slightly used hubs and said 1 needed replacing. Thought it'd be 15 minutes but turned into 5 hours. He neglected the brakes too, rotors need turning, needs pads, bearings and seals so I think I'll do a complete rebuild. Oh Boy
